Connecting the Board to the Community
This November 5th, Chicagoans have a historic opportunity to elect their school board for the first time. This newly elected Board will have the power to set district goals, approve budgets, and oversee the CPS CEO.

I am committed to transparency and deep community engagement. As your representative, I will be a visible presence in District 2 schools and schools across the city, listening to students, parents, and staff to ensure their voices are central to our decision-making. The elected School Board must be accountable to the people.

Together, we can build a community-driven agenda that reflects our shared values.
-
Community-CenteredPublic service is a privilege, and I will always remember that my mandate is to serve the community. We will collaboratively set ambitious goals for CPS, and I will hold the district accountable for implementing the plans to achieve them.
-
Equity FirstI plan to send my son to his neighborhood school, and I feel very strongly that every child in CPS deserves access to a well-resourced neighborhood school, regardless of their zip code. We must break down barriers to success, particularly for those furthest from opportunity. As a board member, I will rigorously apply an equity lens to every decision, ensuring resources are directed where they are needed most.
-
Data-Driven AccountabilityBy focusing on data-driven solutions and collaborating with our communities, we can close the opportunity gap and ensure that every student has the support they need to thrive. As a board member, I will champion a culture of continuous improvement to drive progress, focusing on real results—not just checking boxes.
-
Healthy, Safe, and Inclusive SchoolsWe must create school environments that prioritize mental health, social-emotional learning, and a strong sense of safety for all students. Invest in professional development for staff to implement trauma-informed, restorative practices and culturally sensitive support. Build a culture of inclusivity, support, and robust resources for all LGBTQ+ students. Set policies guided by health experts' recommendations on movement, mindfulness, and nutrition for growing bodies. Invest in the growth of Sustainable Community Schools, guided by direct input from the community, to strengthen wraparound services and support for students and their families.
-
Sustainable Schools and TransportationWe must keep our school environments healthy and sustainable, and reduce their carbon footprint. Advocate for capital improvement expenditures aimed at the modernization of school facilities, focusing on removing hazards like lead piping and asbestos, while promoting sustainability. Ensure students have safe, environmentally friendly transportation to schools, including universal busing (to neighborhood schools as well as selective enrollment schools and magnets), with the goal of transitioning to an all-electric bus fleet by 2035. Support partnerships between Chicago Public Schools and other government agencies to enhance safety and create conditions for more bikeable, walkable, and public transit-oriented commutes for students and staff members.
-
Elevating Student AchievementOur decisions must always prioritize student success, ensuring that every student, regardless of background, has the resources and support they need to excel. Support the implementation of high-quality, culturally relevant curriculum and research-backed instructional practices. Maintain funding for our outstanding selective enrollment schools and high-performing magnet schools, while investing in growing opportunities and fully funding all neighborhood schools. Ensure the budget prioritizes investments in daily classroom experiences and distributes funds equitably across the district. Prioritize full-service provision for students with disabilities and work to support strategies that enhance cohesion between special education teachers, school staff, and families. Hold the district accountable for student outcomes, guaranteeing all students access to high-quality education.
-
Strengthening Bilingual Education and Language AccessDistrict 2 is home to more bilingual students, with more languages spoken, than almost any other district in the city. Ensure compliance with state bilingual education requirements, which many schools do not currently meet. Expand dual language programs and cultivate programming to support global citizenship and biliteracy. Improve language access for families by ensuring robust translation and interpretation services for all school materials and meetings and require interpretation and translation of board meetings and meeting transcripts.
-
Building Pathways to Post-Secondary SuccessWe must prepare our students for life beyond high school by providing them with the skills, opportunities, and support they need to succeed in their chosen path to college, careers, and in the community. Ensure the district provides the support and resources necessary to implement comprehensive school counseling programs that prepare all students for postsecondary opportunities. Forge partnerships with local trade unions and businesses to create more on-ramps to fulfilling career pathways and work-based learning opportunities. Enhance resources to embed Social Emotional Learning and adaptive skills across content areas to build student agency, problem solving, and collaboration skills.
